Revolutionary Cider Celebration

  • Fishkill Farms 9 Fishkill Farm Road Hopewell Junction, NY, 12533 United States (map)

As part of Dutchess County’s ongoing Rev250 celebration – which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 – Destination Dutchess, the Dutchess County Department of History and Fishkill Farms in Hopewell Junction will host their second-annual Revolutionary Cider Celebration on June 27, 2026, from 11 am–5 pm.

Celebrate the start of summer in the orchards here at Fishkill Farms, makers of Treasury Cider (so named because the farm’s founder, Henry Morgenthau Jr., served as the Secretary of the Treasury during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency; the Morgenthau Family has owned the farm for more than 100 years).

It will be a day filled with Revolutionary War and Colonial-era historyfarm experiences, and, of course, apple cider!

Here's what to expect:

• Orchard Talk Wagon Rides with Josh Morgenthau, Owner and Operator of Fishkill Farms. (11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.)

• A Colonial-era Food and Beverage Talk with Sara Evenson, a food historian who studies the cultural creation of kitchen spaces in New York's 18th century. Her research explores the material, sensory and architectural ways in which kitchens were created in the past and are currently interpreted at historic sites. Sara is a doctoral candidate in History at University at Albany, SUNY, and has worked and volunteered in living history for over 20 years. In her free time, Sara enjoys recreating historic recipes and growing heirloom produce. (12 p.m., 4 p.m.)

• Tales of Revolutionary Dutchess County told by Jonathan Kruk, the Hudson Valley's master storyteller. Every year, he enchants at hundreds of schools, libraries, historic sites and festivals, and tailors programs to each venue. Jonathan is best known for his solo shows of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “A Christmas Carol.” He’s been featured on The Today Show, The Travel Channel, CBS Sunday Morning, and the BBC. Jonathan's stories for this event will include “Sybil Ludington’s Ride;” “The Story of Chief and Captain Daniel Nimham;” a story skit of “The Legend of Polly Pell;” and “Enoch Crosby: Cobbler and Spy.” Jonathan will be accompanied by guitarist Steve Kelman. From a lively "Yankee Doodle" to the rousing British march "Gary Owen," Steve will provide a medley of traditional music from Revolutionary times. (2 p.m.)

• An exclusive Single Varietal Cider Flight at Treasury Cider for $17.76, which will include Dabinett, Geneva Tremlett’s Bitter, Brown Snout, Collaos  and Porter's Perfection.

Dutchess County Historian William P. Tatum
